As the summer starts to wind down for most of us, we're starting to think about the kids going back to school and our work schedules going back to normal
There’s still uncertainty in the air, and to a certain extent one of the few guarantees in life is that there will always be uncertainty, but we’re choosing to take a moment and be grateful for how this summer was compared to the last one.
This time last year some of us were still in some form of lockdown. Our studio had only just opened, but with lots of limitations. And parents were trying to navigate starting another school year with their kids learning in their bedrooms on Zoom.
Homeschooling was a struggle for most kids AND for the parents who had to figure out a way to make it work whilst, especially those who were working from home, too.
I'm sure we're all hoping for better days ahead but I'm hoping that we can all learn some key lessons from the pandemic:
- We learned different ways get things done, that we probably never would’ve figured out had we not been forced to, and …
- We can't control our circumstances, but we can control how respond to them.
Off the top of my head, here are a few things that I like better about the way life is now compared to before the pandemic:
- We met up with my old man at the pub the other day, and I've gotta say I definitely prefer ordering food and drink off an app, instead of queuing up at a bar
- I’ll never miss a workout again just because I couldn’t physically make it to the gym. There’s always a remote option, whether that’s a recorded class, or a home workout that I could knock out quickly in my own flat with a couple of dumbbells and a band.
- Coaching is much more enjoyable than it ever was before. I went into this business because I love coaching and helping people. And honestly, I feel much more connected and useful to my clients than I ever did when in-person interactions were the only ones we had.
The vast majority of members who’ve come back into the studio after months of home workouts, commented on how much they missed face to face workouts and how much they love it.
Here’s to a smooth, more normal school year for all of our kids, and more opportunities than you’ve ever had before to take care of yourself, your health and your fitness.
