5 Simple Ways to Succeed in 2022

Happy New Year from us at Polaris Fitness

As we begin a new year, we thought we'd share 5 super simple things you can start doing right away that will have a positive impact on your health and fitness.

Tip: It doesn't need to be as complicated or difficult as you think...

Drink More Water: For most adults, we tend to recommend a minimum of 8 cups of water per day but for those of you who are training regularly, we recommend aiming for half your bodyweight in ounces because of the amount of water lost through sweat and perspiration. If you struggle to get the minimum, start there. And be sure to track your success each day.

Get More Sleep: To feel your best, we recommend 7-9 hours of sleep each night. If you struggle to get that much, set yourself a target of spending at least 7 hours in bed each night and build from there. Here are some simple tips for improving your sleep environment.

Move A Little More: There's no need to hit the gym 7 days a week, 3-5 workouts a week is ideal and 2-3 times will suffice for most people (we recommend 2-3 strength-based workouts and 1-2 cardio-based workouts).

If for whatever reason, you can't get to the the gym, start with 20 minutes of movement a day. If you're not currently doing so, going outside for walk is a great place to start. Have a method to track your success to keep you accountable (try this app)

Eat A Little Better: Going to a 100% clean diet overnight, especially after all the over indulgence during the Christmas period is never something we recommend. It's just not sustainable and the chances are you'll revert back to old habits after a couple of weeks.

We've written before about being The 1% Rule. Ask yourself, "How can I make this meal 1% better?", could you swap out some of the starch for more veg, for example.

Feel free to take a pic of your meals for three days (use this app) and send them to me; I'll be more than happy to take a look and give you feedback.

Be Kind To Yourself: Celebrate your successes and don't beat yourself up over the failures. Start each day with a clean slate, and every day, try to do something kind to yourself and to others.

Remember to keep things simple!

Success is the result of all the small decisions that you execute consistently. There's no need to make it more complicated than that.

And as always, if you need any help knowing where to start feel free to reach out to us
