Resilience

It's been a whilst since we've sent one of these out, so gonna try my best to keep it short and sweet.

Over the last few weeks, especially since the kids have been back at school, I've had a few conversations with other parents about getting back into training.

Most of the time, I get asked about the about the best combination of exercises, sets and reps, and how much weight they should be lifting etc.

And don’t get me wrong, whilst those things are important, the more people I speak with, the more I realise that the things that would make the biggest difference for most people usually go beyond sets, reps and exercises.

A lot of the time, one of the major things holding people back is a lack of....resilience.

And by this, I mean their ability to persist and endure setbacks and challenges.

So this week, I thought it'd be a useful exercise to ask the following question....

When faced with challenges, how do you respond?

When your schedule gets busy, do you get to the gym a little less – but still get there. Do you workout at home or go for a walk instead?

Or do you take a complete break from training, and look to resume when things settle down?

I've written about this in previously...

Whether it's work, studies, your kids, or a combination of them all, there will always be times when you have to prioritise other things over exercise. We get that, it's perfectly normal, and happens to us too.

When this happens, most people hit the 'pause' button, taking a complete break from training and then look to resume when things settle down, and that’s why they’re so frustrated with their fitness plan and results.

Don't be like most people.

All or nothing doesn’t work.

Don't give up or give in when challenges emerge. Because, you know, in this life, there will always be a new challenge or something else competing for your time.

So don't let a bad day of eating and/or drinking turn into a bad week.

Don't one skipped workout turn into three … and then six … and then …

I can't stress this enough, doing SOMETHING, even if it's less than you'd like to do, will ALWAYS be better than doing nothing.

And as always, if you're not sure where to start, please don't hesitate to reach out ✋
