Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of bumping into one of our old members. Now typically in these situations, I try to avoid talking about health and fitness and like to find out how they're doing, what is new in their life etc.
But as much as I try, it's only a matter of time before the conversation comes back to what they have or haven't been doing with regards to their training and nutrition, and unfortunately sometimes they've relapsed into old habits
In this particular conversation, the person was quite hard on themselves, and I noticed the word 'failure' come up an awful lot 😔
So for this weeks newsletter, I thought it might be useful to share my thoughts on what 'failure' is and isn't, and help with a little reframe so that you no longer see failure in a way that it sabotages your efforts
What is failure?
Is it failure when you start an exercise program or nutrition plan and don't stick with it 100%?
If you ask me, that's not failure at all…
Failure to me, would be not starting in the first place.
Maybe you've got an urgent deadline at work, or changed jobs completely. Maybe you've got a new born baby, your kids are off school for the summer holidays, you've just ended a relationship or are going through a messy divorce.
Whatever the reason, it's perfectly normal to go through periods of time when you have to prioritise other things take over your training and nutrition, and you aren't able to stick with your plan 100%
That's normal.
Please don't mistake that for failure.
Failure would be stopping training completely, losing all of your progress, returning to all your previous bad habits....and never starting again.
If you've managed to get the odd workout in, even if it's less often, or managed to return to training after a tough period where you had to prioritise other things, that is not failure.
Try not to be too hard on yourself!
And as always, if you need a little help rebuilding those lost habits, please don't hesitate to reach out!
