Imperfect Action

If you read the subject line for todays email, you would have seen see a statement that has been, and continues to be, a real game changer for me in both my personal and professional life...

“Perfectionism is the enemy of progress.”

I can't even tell you how many times in my life, I've found myself waiting for the perfect time to do something. And when that time never came (because there’s no such thing 🤦‍♂️), I found myself regretting the time that I wasted.

And if you're anything like me, you'll understand exactly where I'm coming from.

One thing I've noticed over the years, when speaking to friends, family and members, is that this statement is especially true when it comes to our health and fitness.

It's so easy to talk ourselves into believing that in order to have the body and health that we want, we have to meal prep every weekend, be in the gym for 2 hours a day, 6 days a week, and since we don’t have time for that (who does?), we end up doing nothing.

Sometimes, this all-or-nothing approach, and vicious cycle of inaction and regret comes from a limiting belief that is based on past experiences, something similar to:

“I’ve started a training routine before, but I always end up quitting because I don’t have enough time …”

And lo and behold, our outcomes -- no progress, gaining extra unwanted weight, and feeling ashamed about it -- end up confirming that limiting belief.

I’ve seen it so many times…

That’s why the concept of imperfect action is so powerful. As I've written before, in a previous email about motivation, start with one small thing you can do today

One workout, one healthy meal, one good nights sleep....

And just keep making new choices that will improve your outcomes and change your beliefs.

Stop trying to be perfect. it doesn't exist! Being imperfect and taking action will create motivation and help build momentum … not the other way around 💪.
