We wrote a few of days ago about what we believe to be one of the most important requirements if you want to transform your body and health: CLARITY.
Today, we wanted to discuss another important requirement, we believe that once you have clarity., the next thing you need is a STRATEGY.
Once you know your starting point and have set yourself specific, attainable goal with a realistic time frame, the next step is to understand what steps you need to take in order to succeed.
Now for the sake of this post, we'll define our 'strategy' as the set of specific actions that, when performed consistently, will help you achieve your desired result.
Let's take a look at how we might create a strategy for a 150lbs woman who wants to lose 20lbs.
Taking into account that the average rate of weight loss for a woman who is following a well-designed exercise program and nutrition plan about 80 percent of the time is about 0.5 percent of body weight per week, with a little math, we can figure out that it will take her about 26 weeks (or 6 months, give or take) to accomplish her goal.
Based on her movement screen and fitness assessment, we know that she needs to improve her core strength and cardiovascular conditioning and based on our goal-setting discussion, we also know that she only eats vegetables with a few meals per week.
So we've checked the first box: We have clarity ✔️. Now, we need a strategy.
Here are some initial action steps we could assign that would form our strategy:
- 1-2 days per week of full body resistance training
- 1-2 days per week of aerobic cardiovascular conditioning
- Include 1 fist-sized serving of vegetables in at least 2 meals per day.
That's it.
Once we assign these steps, we can then ask her to track her success with each habit to keep her accountable.
Then, depending on how consistent she is with each habit, we may adjust them every two weeks, adding a new habit when she's mastered one, or making one easier if she's struggling.
Then, every 4-6 weeks, we'd re-assess, recording her weight and body fat again, so we can tell whether she's moving in the right direction towards her goal, and make the necessary adjustments if we have to.
This is how you start transform your body, with CLARITY, and with a specific STRATEGY to achieve your desired result.
